Are your skin care product ingredients toxic?
Toxic synthetic chemicals have a negative impact on the health of millions of people in the world today. Chemicals are found in virtually everything we eat and everything we use on our bodies. Our toiletries and skin care products are made from a toxic mixture of synthetic chemical names and sold to us as skin “care” products.
Given that there are 80,000 chemicals on the market today, some of them, like asbestos, are directly linked to deaths. How likely do you think it is that specific action will be taken against the use of 1,4 dioxane and formaldehyde in terms of being classified as dangerous? These two ingredients are shockingly abundant in baby care products!
Consider how many different products you put directly on your skin every day that have a ‘list’ of ingredients. By simply applying 12 different products onto your skin daily, such as shampoo, conditioner, hairspray, deodorant, body lotion, various face lotions, makeup, sun-block, nail polish and remover, household cleaning products, etc., you could be putting approximately 168 toxic ingredients onto your body which it then absorbs. Don’t forget to consider the toxic ingredients you’re putting on your children’s skin too!
Health and natural beauty is far more than skin deep. Your health depends entirely on what you ingest and absorb through your blood stream! Be cognizant as to what you do put onto your skin! Be proactive – investigate your products and make changes that will have positive long-term health benefits for you and your family!
Many ingredients in skin care products are untested and have potential health concerns. Keep in mind most of the data used is from studies done on lab animals not people. Since, most products are not tested on human how do we know that they’re not actually hazardous or potentially toxic?
It is misleading that The FDA reviews the labels of products that are out in the market. It does not review nor does it have the authority to regulate what goes into cosmetics before they are marketed to salons and consumers. The United States has much to learn from the EU example. The EU Cosmetics Directive has banned 1,100 chemicals from cosmetics; the U.S. FDA has banned or restricted only 11!!
There are ways to inform and educated yourself:
One: Skin Deep is a safety guide to cosmetics and personal care products brought to you by researchers at The Environmental Working Group created a website ( www.ewg.org/about) to allow consumers to view safety ratings of thousands of personal care products. Type in the product you use and the website will give you a hazard rating it ranges from 0, the lowest to 10 being the highest: www.cosmeticsdatabase.com

Gluthathione has been my missing link to why I’ve felt fatigued, tired, aloof and less then energized for years!! I’ve spent endless amount of time and money at doctors offices plus tests after tests. The list went from possible Hashimoto Disease to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and the solution was to take anti-depressants which I don’t prescribe to. Thank goodness, I don’t take every recommendation from a doctor who chooses not to think outside the box!
As usual, I become by own detective, and started researching. Amazingly enough, a doctor on line by the name of Dr. Emgra, M.D., Ph.D. who is fabulous (in my opinion) is the one who suggested gluthathione: www.liveperson.com. Based on my history, symptoms and his personal research; he felt Oxidative Stress is what was going on with me. A little bit about Oxidative Stress: “Your body constantly reacts with oxygen as you breathe and your cells produce energy. As a consequence of this activity, highly reactive molecules are produced known as free radicals. Free radicals interact with other molecules within cells. This can cause oxidative damage to proteins, membranes and genes. Oxidative damage has been implicated in the cause of many diseases such as cancer and Alzheimer’s and has an impact on the body’s aging process.”
After what I read; I figured why not it’s a natural amino acid that our body produces, and others have had tremendous success with it. Off I went, ordered it and within 3 weeks I noticed a TREMENDOUS difference in my overall well being!! At the time, I was also having some really bad pains in my neck and shoulders which I thought was due to stress, and that also went away.

After watching Food, Inc., I felt moved to write about it. The irony, I was brought up on a farm where we raised some animals for slaughter, so I question am I contradicting myself? Is it o.k to raise animals to be slaughtered; as long as they’re treated humane unlike which is shown in Food, Inc.? It was disturbing to say the least! Not only the workers, the animals and our environment are disrespected for the purpose of processed cheap food. Is it cheaper when the mass has a high rate of diabetes, obesity and other health issues due to poor food regulations? It’s a double edged sword!
If organic and natural foods were cheaper; is there the possibility that consumers would initially purchase healthier food options? In the movie, there was a family who spends $100′s of dollars on medical expenses and drugs. Eating cheese burgers and fries because it’s cheaper is a sad alternative when the medical expenses are more expensive then eating healthy! Another example of poor regulations: A lady who was interviewed on Food, Inc, lost her son to E.Coli but couldn’t speak freely due to fear of being sued. Reported on December 30, 2009 an outbreak of E. coli has infected 21 people in 16 states. The culprit is beef that was shipped to various restaurants throughout the Midwest and western United States. The beef was chopped, which increases the surface area, allowing for bacteria, like E. coli, to penetrate the internal portions of the food products. When that part of the food isn’t cooked thoroughly (as is common with beef), the bacteria isn’t killed and can cause food borne illness. Another contributing factor is when the remains are washed into our rivers, lakes and other water sources which effects our soil then our crops such as vegetables and lettuce are contaminated.
It’s unfortunate that we are lead to believe that the FDA is designed to regulate these types of issues, and protect us because they don’t due to greed and mass production. I do believe that change can happen, like with the Tobacco industry, and how overtime they became more accountable. It CAN turned around by educating the consumer! We do have choices, and I encourage you to read labels! Be aware of what you’re eating and buying. A few ways you can start:
1. Buy from companies that treat their workers, animals and environment with respect!
2. When you go to the supermarket, choose foods that are in season, buy foods that are organic, and know what’s in your foods. For example, Walmart is jumping on board by having some organic products. When you’re shopping look for labels that state “organic.”
3. Buy foods that are grown locally, shop at farmer’s markets and plant a garden. In my local area, Wednesday’s are the day the Farmer Market is held. Check you local newspaper for your farmers market.
4. Watch: Food, Inc:
